Internet Marketing Tips

What are the most common mistakes internet marketers make, and why should you learn at all cost how to avoid them if you want to be successful in your online business? The numbers are alarming but real. Over 95% of internet marketers are failing to reach the success they had anticipated. The reasons why are in fact few and simple. Internet marketing is a trade and like any other trade it needs to be learned. People enter the internet marketing trade with no knowledge of what is involved in order to succeed in it. It is like there are replying to an ad requesting help for tailors, but they don’t know how to sew yet, and they are expecting to learn the sewing craft on the job. Of course, in any job or profession you will gain experience as you go, but you must have a good knowledge of your craft in order to even start adequately. Well, it’s the same with internet marketing. Before you can expect huge amounts of money, you have to have some degree of knowledge and apply that knowledge into your online business. Here are 5 steps that will prepare you adequately as a new comer in the internet marketing field. First, don’t get overwhelmed. Be prepared to be confused when you start, it’s a normal thing to go through. Unless you are very familiar with the terms and steps common to internet marketing, you are going to need help. Having your own mentor, someone who has already succeeded in the online business will make a world of difference for you and your success. I have coached some people to start in their internet marketing venture who told me that they would have just quit if it wasn’t for having someone helping and encouraging them as they were getting started. Second, you need to be willing to learn and research.
Having someone showing you the way doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t look for answers on your own as well. Do not get into the habit of asking every single little question you might have, unless you’ve at least tried to get an answer by doing your own research. The reason for this is that when you find the answers yourself it makes you stronger and on the right track for your internet marketing business. As an internet marketer, you need to be a leader, and leaders look for solutions to their problems and answers to their questions on their own. Only by doing this you will mature as a real internet marketing pro.

Web Site Marketing Mistakes

A website and its presence on the internet potentially have the ability to generate any company more revenue. The challenge is like any venture you have to market yourself and it. In honesty you would not open a new shop in the high street and not market it? Well it is the same with your website or online presence. Many businesses make mistakes below are three common ones that most business make.
-Not letting the search engines know you are there
This is the most common mistake and very natural. With so many other things to do for a small business it is natural to think your web company would do this for you. Not always so. Make sure you find out if this is part of the package. If not get a local firm to do this for you. In the bigger scheme of things the cost is small.
-Not Marketing to Your Ideal Client
Many business owners know so much about their product they forget that there customer might not be searching for their brand. They are actually looking for a solution to a problem. This is easy to sort out. Make sure you have researched what your market needs and have built in search terms that they would use. That way they are much more likely to find you.
-Not having Enough Content on Your Site
Content is key on the internet. In your small business marketing strategy this must now form a key part. It is a sure fire way to attract and keep clients. Invest in a website where you can update content easily without the help of a website. The more your content changes the better it is for your customers. The more relevant you will be and the more likely Google is to pull you to the top of the search engines.

Internet Marketing Niche

When somebody wants to start an online business, he has to begin with deciding which niche to choose. There are many and it is difficult to select one because the niches which are more profitable have more competition and the niches which have less competition are less profitable. But Internet Marketing is a niche where you will still find a lot of possibilities and it is the most profitable niche ever known to man. Following are the reasons why it is the niche you must select for your online business if you really want to make real money.
-People’s biggest natural need is to make money and it is a universal need. As a general observation there are more people looking for ways to make money than people looking for ways to reduce their weight or to cure their acne or to train their dogs.
-As far as internet marketing is concerned, people search about it on the internet itself. Think about it. People who want to reduce weight would probably go to a doctor or a gym. Internet would not be a primary platform for him to get his definite results. You get the point.
-A serious internet marketer who is your potential buyer considers buying as an investment- something which will help him make money. They know that if they do not invest the money in their business, they will not make money. This psychology definitely helps you make far more sales.

Internet Marketing and Spam

If you are familiar with online marketing, then perhaps you’re aware of what spam is and how it is done. Since most home based businesses are also promoted over the internet, entrepreneurs try to find ways on how they can reach out to a wider range of audience. Sadly, some internet merchants resort to spamming as one of their marketing tactics. If you’re a home based business owner, should you try out this same technique? The answer of course is one big No. “Spamming” is sending out messages or emails to people without first asking for their permission. Even worse, spammers send out these unsolicited emails repeatedly to the same recipients just to get their attention. Spammers are hoping to get noticed, to get recognized, or even make a sale from sending out unsolicited emails. Aside from personal email addresses, they also use online communities and forum boards to post off-topic messages that disrupt the discussion. Obviously, spamming isn’t considered as a good business practice. In fact, online marketers are strongly discouraged from using “spam” as one way to advertise the business. Why? Spamming is an ineffective tactic because everyone hates unsolicited ads. Instead of attracting potential clients to patronize your business, spamming would be like driving them away on purpose. Wouldn’t you hate it if your inbox becomes filled with advertising emails that you’ve never signed up for? Wouldn’t you be angry if a stranger enters your home and tries to sell you something without first knocking on your door? In concept, spamming is a lot like breaking through someone’s home without the owner’s consent. Needless to say, you wouldn’t want your home based business to be part of any campaign that is related to spamming.

Online Advertising Tips

Search Engines – The biggest and most used search engines are Google, Yahoo, Bing and Ask.com. About 70% of people use Google, 16% use yahoo, 9% use Bing and 2% use Ask.com (November 2009 statistics). The most widely used search engine and source for finding any type of company or service is Google. Google lists companies a couple of ways when people do a search. There are organic search results, pay-per-clicks (also known as sponsored searches), map search results, articles and more.
Organic Searches – Organic Searches are the searches you see on the left hand side of Google. These searches are free. Companies do not pay any fee to Google to show up here. However, it is very tricky on how Google lists the companies in order. Google has spiders, which are programs in a sense, that go through the internet, surf all the websites and read the texts that are on the websites. These spiders classify web pages according to their text. If a particular websites text is related to the keyword “jumpers”, than Google classifies it as a webpage people would want to see when searching for “jumpers”. The priority of the list for a specific keyword always changes because people are always writing articles and optimizing their website, so one month a company might be first on the list for a keyword, but 3 months later they might be the 10th company showing up for that same keyword. Search engine optimization is a way to help make a website more relevant to specific keywords. Organic Searches are the most used search results from all the sources because they are the most relevant to what the person is looking for.

Pay Per Click – Pay-per-clicks are the sponsored search results you see on the right side of the results page when you use search engines. Companies pay money to be listed here for their desired keywords. Companies pay every time someone clicks on the advertisement banner. Usually companies see a lot of results from advertising in pay-per-clicks because they pay usually around 0.20 to 0.80 cents per click (depending on how competitive the keyword bidding is). However, keeping track of the keyword performance and optimizing the ads takes up a lot of time and requires the person doing it to have knowledge in pay per click advertising. Usually most people hire a company that does pay-per-click optimization and pay them on a monthly basis to keep track of their keywords and optimize their ads. The cost of doing pay per click depends on how much money you decide to spend on it, but usually it runs in the hundreds of dollars a month. Companies can place a daily or monthly budget so it only spends that much, once the limit is reached the advertisements stop. They say about 10-30% of clicks on the advertisements are fraud, meaning a competitor is sitting their clicking on the advertisements so the company can get charged. Google’s pay-per-click program is called Google AdWords. Pay-per-click is usually more expensive on the long run than search engine optimization.
Search Engine Optimization – Search engine optimization is when someone optimizes their website so Google’s spiders will recognize it as important for a specific keyword. This can be done by creating back links (links from other websites/webpage’s to your website), articles linking to your website, directory submissions and more. Search engine optimization is kind of like a popularity game. The more websites there are that refer or link back to your website for a specific keyword, for instance “jumpers”, than Google’s spiders think, ok this website is the most important for the keyword “jumpers” and therefore, should be the first listed under the organic search results. Companies that usually get listed on the top of search results for a keyword do search engine optimization on a continuous basis. This means they either hire someone or do it themselves. Hiring someone costs around $350-$600 per month to continuously do search engine optimization, but this does not guarantee a company will the listed in the first page.

Generating Traffic

In the world of home based businesses and online businesses, in my opinion, affiliate marketing is one of the best. If you have your own website to promote your products or someone else’s product, then you need to drive traffic to your site in order to be successful. Here are a few ways for you to do that:
-Relevant Content. Plainly put, you need unique and relevant content on your website. Your website should look like a good resource center for your visitors and needs to teach them about the product or service you are promoting. The search engines also like unique content and it will help you with search engine optimization.
-Keywords. Your website needs to have your keywords in the content and preferably at or near the top and also in the title. You will also want to use your keywords though out the content but don’t over do it! To help you find keywords for your site, do a search for the Google Keyword Tool.
-Get Backlinks. What you will want to do here is find websites that have a high page rank and and that is close to the same niche that you have but not in direct competition with you and ask them to put a link to your site on their web site in exchange for a link on your site to theirs. The more of these you have, the better your site will do on the search engines.
-Articles and Blogs. Write articles about you product or service and submit them to article directories. Make sure you have a link back to your site. Most article directories will allow this in the bio section of the submission process. Also, you should have a blog and post good content in it on a regular basis three to four times a week minimum. Again, have a link back to your website somewhere in the content.

Internet and Traditional Marketing

The lives of people around us have been revolutionized by the internet, changing our business and marketing strategies. Marketing is not limited to internet marketing. There are other marketing avenues like print and digital marketing. Since each business is exclusive and requires unique plans, at the end of the day to remain profitable you should think of combining these three marketing mediums, by balancing their good and bad elements. On the internet, marketing through search engine has been proved to be inexpensive, when compared to the traditional print marketing or direct mail marketing. If your website finds a place in the main page of search engines you are likely to be assured of increased web traffic. Thus by optimizing search engines, through keywords you can generate traffic, build links and turn partly this traffic into customer base. Remember, a person searching through keywords is a potential customer. This driving of traffic towards your website is the best part of internet marketing, but the bad part is that all the traffic doesn’t mean buyers. Print media which has been the backbone of US marketing and economy for long time has been gradually taken over by the internet marketing. Postal departments in US have been reporting loss of revenue in recent years, as people move from mailing to electronic communication. Moreover in the traditional print marketing, there are costs involved like paper, envelopes, postages etc., which is certainly much more than that of internet.. In the traditional marketing sphere, there are some things which continue to attract us, which are being utilized by the traditional marketing people. The tussle between traditional and internet marketing isn’t limited to the cost factor, even as some people still find direct mailing is a better option. Everyone to his/her own choice! When asked which indeed the best marketing medium is, you should say a good mixture of all these mediums is the best. Such a combination should form part of our marketing plans. Considering we are catering to different groups, you should plan your marketing strategy accordingly. If your business is wholly localized, you may not need internet marketing at all, because you are not interested in world market. Instead you will do well to build you local base through print media like direct mailing. But if you expand into a retailer of goods, you can opt for internet marketing, which will then become inexpensive. But you would by now know that whatever the marketing media you choose, the strategies remain the same. You can build clientele only by getting people to visit your facility, whether it is a website or a localized outlet.

Internet Marketing

Good sense, and good manners should prevail on the Internet, just as in any aspect of promoting your online business. There are 6 points of etiquette you should consider to make sure you are doing business the right way. The most basic rule of etiquette that applies to email is: acquire permission! You need to receive the recipients’ permission to send them email. When mailing an invitation or “sample” message for the first time, at the very least you have to introduce your email with the reason you are mailing it, how come they were chosen to receive it, and the promise to withdraw them from the subscriber base upon asking. Include “opt in” and “opt out” capabilities — with distinctly outlined features — in each email you send. And if someone does opt out, etiquette necessitates that you honor that decision and not email him or her again. And in all likelihood the most talked about — and most misused — rule of email etiquette is “No Spam!” Sending out bulk emails to lists of people you’re not acquainted with, have never done business with you, or have never chose in to receive it is the biggest internet taboo now. Use of online special interest discussion groups may be a very effective technique to attract attention to your business or product, but etiquette requires that you abide by the rules and only advertise in a subtle and unobjectionable manner. Be genuine and take part in chat rooms, newsgroups and forums that are affiliated to your business, product or service. Offer actual advice supported by your particular knowledge or experience. Be courteous, answer questions directly, and use traditional, polite introductions and language. When you post a message, make certain you add your “signature” (a “block” of preformatted contact info: your name, business name, address, phone, email, with a line asking for people to visit your website) at the end. This is a perfectly accepted technique to introduce your business to the group. Post on a regular basis and in a professional manner, and you’ll before long begin getting enquiries about your company and attracting group members to your site. Be honest and straightforward with all the information you give about your business. Make sure to supply enough contact information so that you will be able to be reached and the ad reader feels convinced you are “legit.” Etiquette advises that you not try to jampack every detail about your company or product into one ad, but instead use it as a “teaser,” inviting visitors to your website for additional information. Be descriptive enough to address a need or appeal to an emotion. And avoid using excessive abbreviations just to cut back on the per word rate. You may reduce your expense, but readers might not understand your abbreviations.

Marketing Tips

The development of an advertising plan essentially requires the generation and specification of alternatives. The alternatives can be various levels of expenditure, different kinds of objectives or strategy possibilities and numerous kinds of options associated with copy creation and media choices. The essence of planning is thus to find out what the feasible alternatives are and reduce them to a set on which decisions can be reached at. Decision making involves choosing from among the alternatives. A complete advertising plan reflects the results of the planning, decision making process and the decisions that have been made in a particular product market situation. In marketing strategy, you should begin with situation analysis, and a thorough examination of all important external and internal factors, taking into account the particular situation. One approach to take would be, to be the low price leader where you seek growth through offering prices that are consistently lower than your competitors or opt to focus on offering different products with high quality and reliability. In the case of creativity, rational approaches that rely on persuasive argument and reason about a brand attribute should be employed. These approaches need to depend on customer’s emotions and feelings for their effectiveness such as the attempted evocation of warmth, affection, excitement, the use of humor or of fear are also very useful.
