An economist once said that demand is manufactured. One way demand is manufactured is through advertising. The way modern business is conducted is such that no business – large or small – can survive without advertising. Small businesses are at a very big disadvantage when it comes to advertising because they have limited budgets. There are, however, many things that small businesses can do to best advertise themselves. These include the following:
-Get your message right
The message you sent out in your ads should be right and concise. There should not be any ambiguities as to what you’re saying in your advertising The message should be simple and not too long. And that message should be the same wherever you are seen. Contradictory messages will affect your credibility.
-Focus on target groups
Each campaign you make as a small business should be focused on a particular group such as young people, women, people on the net, etc. You should be able to communicate in the language of each target group satisfactorily. If you try to reach to all groups at the same time, you will not make much impact.
-Choose your media well
There are many media through which you can advertise. Depending on what you are selling, you can do well in one media or the other. If you are selling fashion products for women on the internet, then you should look for sites with large women patronage. If you don’t choose your media correctly, you will be wasting your money.
-Be available for contacts
For a small business to survive, it should provide enough contact information about itself. Beyond that, small businesses should be quick in responding to calls and emails from potential clients. People are looking for service and the faster that service is delivered the better. Such information as phone numbers, email addresses and websites should appear on all your literature.
